“I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety since I was a teenager, and it’s cool to be a part of something that addresses those topics for young people.”

Miles Heizer, one of the fresh young faces who became household names following the release of the first season of Netflix Original ’13 Reasons Why,’ speaks about his relationship with mental health and idea of masculinity today in our new Autumn Winter '17 issue, 'Tales of a new Generation'. The show created much excitable buzz, and also received some negative backlash, as should be expected when handling sensitive topics like suicide and mental health. Miles plays Alex Standall on the show, who became an intriguing character to the audience, certainly resulting from an innate connection between actor and character.

Photographer Chloe After captured the young actor in the undisturbed surroundings and outskirts of San Francisco, not far from the shooting locations of ’13 Reasons Why’. However, ’13 Reasons Why’ is far from the beginning of Miles’ career, seeing as he spent much of his formative years on the set of the television show ‘Parenthood’. A time of which he speaks fondly of; “I’m very grateful to have grown up on ‘Parenthood’ and avoided high school”. He entered into the world of showbiz at a young age and found permanency, which seems to have benefitted him.

Spring 2018, Miles will be seen playing opposite ’13 Reasons Why’ co-star Katherine Langford, who plays Hannah Baker, in the film ‘Love, Simon’ - which is a film based on the young adult novel ‘ Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda’. Season two of ’13 Reasons Why’ is supposedly in the process of being filmed, although it was halted due to devastating wildfires ravaging Northern California. There is little known about the next season, but we’re eager to get to know the faith of his character Alex following the unfortunate event in the last episode of season one.
